about
“This is a song written by Clay Harper, leader of long-gone Georgia pop-rockers The Ottoman Empire. It appears on their 1993 debut "Lester Square" (DB Records) and the original recording features one of the only known recordings by fiddle player and slain Wall Street Journal journalist Danny Pearl. The Mad Ripple band and St. Dominc's Trio/The Belfast Cowboys have performed "This Is It" many times over the years, as it captures the jingly-jangly late-night/early-morning escape that only a good bar, like the Turf or Bar Chord, can.
We all love Leah, we all miss her, and we wanted to give Rob and everybody involved something to listen to that might conjure her life-and music-loving spirit, and commemorate the many friendships we've all forged via bands and bars over the years. A singalong...”
lyrics
Well I wake
And I shake
Get up and have a smoke
I'm hearing voices though nobody spoke
The cigarette's empty but I'll take one more toke
And every day is a lifeboat
This is it
I come here to drink
I come here to smoke
And I come here to think
I love my wife and I love my child
But I'm staying here a little while
Well the days grow old when there's nothing to do
The kid's got a cold, so I've got one, too
The bar that I frequent don't open 'til four
I'll be there when they unlock the door
This is it
I come here to drink
I come here to smoke
And I come here to think
I love my wife and I love my child
But I'm staying here a little while
Well the years go by and the cost is too dear
Children once young soon disappear
Skin once so soft turns slowly to leather
As we sit at the bar
Drinking together
This is it
I come here to drink
I come here to smoke
And I come here to think
I love my wife and I love my child
But I'm staying here a little while
Yeah, I'm staying here a little while
I'm staying here a little while
